My friend Robbie took me out for a desert adventure near Lucerne Valley and to the Rodman Mountains. This area is generally northeast of the Big Bear Mountains. Talk about solitude. We did not see one other person all day. We had the Rodman Mountains to ourselves. We were in search of the ancient Indian petroglyphs but we never found them. No big deal because we had a great day in the desert mountains exploring canyons, poking into mines, and hiking to the top of a few small hills and mountains. The temps were good and the scenery was exquisite with lots of volcanic rock in this area. After hiking we ended up driving dirt roads all the way out past Barstow to Newberry Springs. There were a few sketchy areas for sure but we made it OK.
