Snow Day In The Cuyamaca Mountains

What a great Saturday January 23rd after a week of solid storms. On this partially cloudy day, Linda and I went to meet a bunch of friends for a huge pancake breakfast in San Diego. Lots of fun and good breakfast. Linda and I were saying our goodbyes for the morning and our friend Barbara's daughter Kaylynne heard we were going to the snow and so she jumped in the car with us to go. The mountains were beautiful. We played in the snow, had a snowball fight and stopped at many spots along the way to check out the scenery including the desert overlooks out into the Anza Borrego desert. After That we went to some lower elevations and checked out some massive boulders hanging over the canyon in the upper reaches of the San Diego river at the Inaja picnic area and trailhead.

Group Hike With Family, Freinds and Coworkers

On Saturday January 16th a group of us set out to hike the Santa Margarita River Trail in Fallbrook, CA. My Pictures and stories of the wilderness have sparked interest in many people in my life and now they have gotten an opportunity to experience the wilderness themselves. We all met in Vista under a grey sky but after we got to fallbrook at the trailhead the sky cleared and turned into a beautiful sunny day on the river. There was only a few other people besides ourselves out on the trail that day. The group consisted of Daughter Barbara, Mom Vicki, Girlfriend Linda, Friends Mike, Kris, Steve, Courtney, Morgan and Friend Coworker and her boyfriend Connie and Matt. We hung out and ate snacks on a nice beach beside the river. It was a great time.

My New Kayak at Lake Calaveras Jan 10 2010

So I have been having this vision of Kayaking down the San Luis Rey River. I have been thinking how cool it would be to run the last few miles from inland Oceanside to the mouth where it enters into the Pacific Ocean in Oceanside. For Christmas Linda got me a new inflatable kayak. We tried it out for the first time at Lake Calaveras in Oceanside. It was a great day paddling across the lake on a nice sunny day. We took turns as some of us were out in the Kayak on the lake other were walking the trails near the lake with my brothers and sisters dogs. My brother got his wetsuit on and paddled his longboard out on the lake beside us. It was a nice day out on the lake with family and freinds. Someday soon I will try kayaking down the San Luis Rey River.

Daley Ranch Jan 2, 2010 Escondido

Happy new year everyone. As you can see I am starting out 2010 with several local hikes. The trailhead for Daley Ranch is close by to San Diego in Escondido and really nice day hiking. Everything from Chapparal and Sagebrush landscape to thick hollows of Live and Engleman Oak trees to several ponds to trails among giant granite boulders to expansive views all around to the mountains and foothills nearby. Get out there and enjoy it.

Santa Margarita River Trail Jan 3, 2010

I went for a hike in Fallbrook along the Santa Margarita River Trail. The river is really nice. All of the many varieties of trees, giant granite boulders, river endlessly dropping into large pools, What more could you ask for. I can tell a lot of people walk this trail so don't expect to be alone in this part of the wilderness. Its beautiful out there though and a great place to take the kids. I plan on going again soon.

Volcan Mountain Dec 20 2009

Hello, I finally made it up to Volcan Mountain. It was a semi steep climb up onto this mountain. Excellent Expansive views from the top toward the Anza Borrego Desert to the east, Views in other direstions over Julian and down to the Santa Ysabel Open Space preserve. I seen several deer grazing at the top of the mountain and I seen a coyote near the bottom of the mountain. There are some of the largest and most beautiful Manzanita trees I've ever seen up there. Most of the other trees up there are Live Oak and Black Oak and some Pine and Incense Cedar. Its a really great place for a day hike. The day I went there were only two other people up there.
